#4390: Selection ranges are not "fixed" at start of selection

The range of a selection can change while creating it, such that neither
of the ends of the selected range match the point at which the selection
began. To reproduce, type the words "one" through "nine" on three
separate lines, such that there are 3 words on each line. I used DejaVu
Sans as the font, but it likely doesn't matter.
Now, try any of the following selections by moving the cursor in a
straight line to the words specified in sequence, clicking to start the
selection in the first and releasing in the last:
1. six, eight, four (the resulting selection will range from "four" to
"seven")
2. four, two, six (the resulting selection will range from "three" to
"six")
3. four, five, two, five (the resulting selection will be "five")
4. six, five, eight, five (the resulting selection will be "five")
