Most school servers are likely to be deployed to a specific known village,
and certainly to a known country. Whenever a XO comes into contact with a
new school server, it should update its location to reflect the
village/city/province/country of the server. This location information
should be accessible to Activities, for "extreme l10n". This should be
extremely easy to implement. Location information should include both a
city+country name and an approximate latitude+longitude.

My specific application is in the Acoustic Tape Measure activity. This
activity's functionality is sensitive to air temperature, and its accuracy
would be improved with knowledge of air temperature. If the location were
known, the air temperature could easily be looked up on the internet,
using a site like wunderground.com, which creates a real-time temperature
 map of the entire globe.

Another application is the stargazing activity (nightsky), which requires
knowledge of latitude and longitude to generate the correct starfield.
This information would also be useful to any activity concerned with
weather, agriculture, geography, local customs and history...

In any case, knowing what country the XO is deployed in would be very
helpful, and knowing which city would be even better. Note that language
!= location, so laptops cannot deduce their lat/lon from LANG.
