Suspend and resume can break activities, but sometimes only after many
 repetitions.

A tool might be useful, which causes repeated suspend/resumes, while the
user uses the machine normally. Perhaps a suspend/resume every 1, 5 or 10
 seconds.

This will quickly break Record, but most other activities should continue
 to work.

Such testing would help make activities more robust in the face of laptop
shutting, and might provide an alternate discovery route towards any
 remaining hardware suspend/resume bugs.

Mitch_Bradley says the real time clock alarm can wake the laptop up. And
he has an OFW diagnostic that does suspend/resume on approx 2 second
intervals using that technique. But it doesn't run in background (so one
can't simply start it and then boot), and it's not clear how to incant the
 alarm+suspend from linux.
