 X 1.4 does not fix the problem.

 It may be a bug in the rasterization of the a8 masks, which now reides in
 pixman.  The library identical to what F8 ships for Cairo.

 Could anyone test on Xephyr with sugar-emulator and confirm that this bug
 is not platform specific?  So I'll have a better idea where to look.
