 All important messages that occure before sugar and X launch should be
 clear, translated into core languages (see
 http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Languages), and available in the proper format
 for use by the firmware.  Currently this means we need bitmaps of the
 images we want to display, so that we don't have to load fonts.

 Messages include
 * <<activation failure>>
 * "Your laptop needs to be plugged in to upgrade its firmware."
