 OK, here's my opinion:

 dcbw is correct about automagic retries causing association time to go
 nuts.  DHCP sucks on many implementations, and doing in 3-4 times sucks
 3-4 times worse. Doing things behind the user's back is just going to
 cause trouble.

 The attempt to avoid the pretty trivial drop down box to select key type
 is not discoverable and as experience has shown, people get the funky $:
 syntax wrong.  We have been planning to ditch this for FRS anyway.  It
 seems to me we need to bite the bullet and just do what we intended to do
 for FRS anyway and provide the drop down box to select the key type.

 So, at Tomeu's judgement, if he thinks the drop down box is low risk,
 please go ahead and implement it; if risky, then add the text so that the
 funky syntax is at least visible for Trial-3.
