Comment(by Eben):

Well, this is a gray area, I think. The Journal isn't really "just
another activity"; it's an integrated part of the filesystem...it ''is''
the filesystem. As such, the in progress entry is very much like the in
progress download icon for Safari on OSX: the icon representing the
unfinished download has a mini embedded progress bar. The key difference,
of course, is that the browser itself still has a downloads window which
 provides management.

I think in our case, it makes sense to defer to the Journal to provide
this management, since it prevents the need for many activities to do the
same thing (download manager) in different ways, and it prevents the need
for an additional "floating window" within which such a manager could
live. In any case, you would get this same kind of alert in most browsers
even if the download manager window wasn't open on screen, which would
result in a very similar circumstance, albeit ''possible'' to have the
window open in the same application.

Obviously, if one tries to close the activity, we need to indicate that
doing so would cancel the download. It seems to make the most sense to do
that in the context of the activity. I also that, because of this, the
alert upon completion makes sense within the context of the activity which
initiated it. Note that there is a complication when closing the activity
from the Home screen, which would require us to focus the activity view
when an alert of this type appears (that's something we need to handle in
 the general case).
