 The problem seems related to the amount of information that is being
 pushed over DBus. I am still testing, but if for example you remove the
 request for 611 55k preview pngs from the metadata and that doesn't go
 over the wire the times improve drastically. We most likely want to only
 request the summary fields used in the initial journal view until its time
 to display the details when a single item is opened.

 Sorting an so on don't seem to have any impact in my testing so far.
