for builds around the 580-590, if the journal did not know how to read
items in the journal (especially when trying to restart a tamtam activity
since tamtam changed dramatically); then the journal would just show a
white page; no back button, nothing.

Yeah, but then we would get an exception in the logs (we don't).

know how to read an old item, it will show the back button; not a white
 page.

This fix didn't go into any build because was triaged for FRS. This is the
 ticket: #3572.

Would be fairly easy to apply on the Trial-3 branch. This is the patch:

 activity;a=commit;h=250087315c41b195dff0660fea2d52de28e44f6d

doesn't understand so it will 'fix' the symptoms.

Philipmac's comments suggest to me that this is some kind of redraw
problem. Some fixes for the X server/driver went in recent builds and also
Marco fixed some related issues in the Journal side.

 > IF this is the bug, then it is fixed and closed in 608+. Assigning it
 back to Phillip to check.

Yeah, please check again with the latest build.
