 By experimenting I found that we can save a whopping 5 seconds of boot
 time by simply setting LANG=C in /etc/sysconfig/i18n.

 Then we can set the real value of LANG in /home/olpc/.xinitrc, just before
 running sugar.  Alternatively, we could have it in /home/olpc/.i18n and it
 should be executed automatically as part of /etc/profile.
