 It appears to me that the 'utf8_strings' option described in
 [http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-python/doc/tutorial.html#data-types]
 gives a reasonable band-aid that will prevent us from ever seeing unicode
 objects sent through dbus.
