 For OOB, salut wants to sent the the otherside the FQDN as known by
 avahi.. So the other side can connect to that address.. The avahi FQDN is
 something which looks <hostname>.local.. RH/fedora
 alikes don't have nss-mdns installed so the normal dns infrastructure
 can't actually resolve this..

 Salut does rely on the fact that this is possible though and on Debian
 derivatives it is actually possible as nss-mdns is installed pretty much
 by default if avahi is installed.

 It would be good if salut didn't rely on nss-mdns to be installed though.
 The correct solution for this needs some thought though
