 I don't think this is valid.  While it's true that it won't scroll past
 the latest message, it won't scroll at all.  This means that you still
 have to scroll every time a new message arrives to follow the
 conversation, which isn't an improvement.

 We're really in need of a proper solution to #2351 ASAP.
