 Marco and I have concluded that the uncertainty we share in #4928 about
 who is responsible for jiggling the filesystem reflects the fact that,
 when replacing regular package-management with monolithic updates, we left
 out the 'post-install script' feature.

 Some feature like this one is particularly important if we wish to be able
 to smoothly migrate to a new datastore layout in a future release.
