Comment:

 A fair concern. Given that I've not worked directly on them, I'm willing
 to concede to daf/guillaume's judgement as to whether landing these
 patches this week in the way I described on #4965 is feasible.

 As a side point, even without the patch, we can still leave XMPP enabled,
 and look to make the planned server-side tweaks anyway, but the trade-off
 would be that people whose friends were not on-line from a similar network
 block wouldn't be visible in the friends view. On the other hand, that's
 guaranteed to always be the case with Salut, so is it really a regression?

 Thinking on the fly of less invasive changes that don't entirely preclude
 XMPP collaboration on Ship.2, we could also set the 'connect-server'
 property to a seperate hostname, eg ship2.jabber.laptop.org which we can
 enable/disable independently to the well-known jabber.laptop.org hostname,
 then we can turn it off if it becomes a problem.
