Comment:

 In principle I would agree with you here with respect to the gettext
 tools. However, I don't think documentation belongs in code. I am
 experimenting with how to do this in the source, and I haven't really
 figured out the right way: these help strings would span multiple lines,
 and genpot doesn't really like that either... If you have a solution for
 that I would be happy to hear it.
