 I am at a hotel, behind some unknown type of Firewall/NAT box.  SSH and
 HTTP work; IRC doesn't.  The XO can connect to the network, but it doesn't
 connect to jabber.laptop.org.  Presumably, the port is blocked.

 Presence is critical to the utility of the XO, so it would be valuable for
 it to work in the widest possible variety of network configurations.  In
 this case, tunneling over SSH would solve the problem; there are other
 solutions as well.
