 Much of this stuff, if not all of it, has size info that could be used to
 provide correct file sizes.

 Lots of programs misbehave when the file size is wrong. Commonly programs
 will refuse to read a file that looks empty.

 It's also just more informative for the human if "ls -l" returns correct
 data.
