 The error can also show up entirely within the PresenceService on a dbus
 callback.  Line 795 of presenceservice.py can wind up passing in a None as
 the telepathy plugin for the Activity.  This generates a rather
 uninformative traceback in the caller telling them that "CM" must be
 valid.
