 I believe I have a working pangofont with support for transparency.  I
 don't have a big-endian machine handy to test that, but the display does
 work properly on and amd64 machine under sugar-jhbuild with transparent
 text.  I've also added basic docstring documentation and a test-case to
 the bottom of the module to allow for checking whether it really is
 working on a given machine.
