 I've detected different problems when trying to play Speex in different
 applications.  They are serious blockers.

 Opening a Speex file through the browser sends it to the clipboard.  From
 there one may open it on Etoys or the browser player.

 On Etoys, an error message reports that the file is not playable at all.

 On the browser, the plugin (I think it's Totem now) starts playing it, but
 then chokes on it.  The seeking bar will continue but no sound will come
 out.  Forcing the file to seek forwards/backwards plays another second or
 two before it goes silent again.  It may be a performance situation, as
 the plugin forces the background 3D effects which are probably too
 intensive for the hardware.  Disabling the background effects is likely a
 start.

 Finally, I decided to try the speexdec command tool.  Here too it did not
 work, but it's a completely different problem than the above.  It reports
 that /dev/dsp is missing.  Why, I have no idea.
