#4766: usb key not viewable in journal; contains boot data

 622; 1G belkin usb key.
Will try to reproduce on joyride

I have a usb key with boot data (and other data) on it.
If I insert it while my xo is running,

 a) it automounts. the journal recognizes it as mounted
 b) if I try to open it in the journal, it won't open
 c) if I pass files to or from it via the console, this works

Is the fact that is has boot data on it (in the magic filenames) relevant?
could this be related to my key?
