Comment:

This has been dropped for a while, but now that we have some new mockups
for Browse (http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Browse#Screenshots) I thought it
 would be worth revisiting.

I think, for the most part, popup blocking is an acceptable approach.
Most people I know block them by default. In all cases, however, a way is
provided to bypass the blocker. We too will need a solution. One
possible solution is to have a preference setting for the activity which
states "Allow popups whose content resides at same the domain as the
current page." This would make many of the "login" and other legitimate
uses work just fine. We can also have an option-click (or some shortcut)
bypass the blocker directly. This isn't such a big deal to handle with
the addition of tabs in the UI. Popups should open within a new tab, not
 a new activity.

The only remaining "problem" is resizing of the browser window, which many
popups like to do. I put "problem" in quotes, though, because I see this
too as a feature. When a popup loads in a new tab and resizes a window in
a traditional desktop interface, it's a pain because it resizes the window
for ALL of the open tabs. Since we have a fullscreen interface, we can
just prevent the problem by default.
