Juliano Bittencourt:
We never had any problem with screws in the XO. Like you saw,
children carry their XOs to a lot of places and try to do all possible
movements with the laptop parts. But we never noticed a missing screw. I
need to do a inventory of the machines on monday to register the MAC
numbers and will check for any missing screw.
And more recently:
Well, about the screws, I investigated in all our machines. I don't
find a single missing screw. All machines had their screws intact.
This means one of:
o the Nigerian lot was miss-assembled (which, while possible, seems
unlikely).
o some environmental issue is causing them to loosen.
o the machines are so interesting that many people are disassembling
them, and not reassembling them correctly.
If it is the last, which seems most likely, it may be that problems
might be prevented in the field by having a "see the insides of
the machine" day, in which everyone gets to see what an XO is made
of.
