Comment:

The NAND errors on power-off or on were software related:

 from dwmw2 (5/22/07):
I believe when we finally managed to elicit a coherent description of the
[NAND error on power up/down] problem, it turned out to be due to memory
 usage in OpenFirmware.

Mitch was looking at it and had it fixed locally before I left Shanghai,
IIRC. But it wasn't yet committed in a release build of OF.

 from Mitch (5/22/07):
The fix is in Q2C13, which Richard built on Monday morning, i.e. today.

This ticket is declared closed as fixed.
