Chargers are made to receive an input voltage of 100-240 V.
However, this week we got “One socket of the UPS caught fire and affected
the wireless router plugged to it.” because the spikes on the power
voltage varies a lot [VSAT/LAN Audit report on OLPC Site Abuja by
Accelon. May 16, 07]. Today we got something else burned, we are waiting
for the electrician to find out the problem, but it smelled like something
was burning and we had no more power.
So, after talking with locals, they were explaining me that the voltage in
Nigeria is not steady, and that it can fluctuate up to 300 V or more. And
I thought on the huge amount of chargers that we have been sending back to
Quanta and they look just find from the outside.
Maybe the burned laptop went through something alike.
