Galadima school, Abuja, NG. XOs falling down from the benches is a common
thing. However, most of the times, it happens when they are closed, so
they resist the impact better.
Now, it is very clear to me that what happens is that children place their
XOs on top of their benches (the upper part where they usually write) or
on the space below (where they store their materials). However, the
benches have a downward inclination towards were the child is sitting, so
the XOs slip down and fall to the ground. It seems that they were open
when someone passed by the bench, moved the bench, and down went the XOs,
all the way to the floor. The screen are badly broken, but everything else
withstood the shock very nicely. The XOs still work.
[Maybe a couple of stoppers may help?]
We have a total of four broken screens,
It looks like the benches were designed for 2 children, but we use them
for three, and sometimes for four and even five children. The floor is
made of concrete and here is lots of dirt on it. The height and
inclination of the benches vary. They are either tall or short, around 65
and 50 cm high, with about a 10 and 25 degree inclination. The classrooms
are small for the big number of students, and accidentally knocking them
off the benches is rather probable.
