 Fixing this would greatly help with all the existing app code that uses
 compiled-in paths. Changing from "/usr/share/foo" to "." via the Makefile
 or configure script is was easier than adjusting all references in the
 code, some of which may be const.

 (it's one of the problems I hit with Tux Paint)
