 Right; the driver does cache the WEP keys and re-uses them in the next
 association.  They are only cleared if userspace does the equivalent of
 'iwconfig eth0 key off' to clear keys.

 In this case, I think NetworkManager is attempting reassociation but that
 fails, leading NM to request the key on the premise that it's wrong.
 Because, of course, it tried to connect with the key and could not.

 Can you get some logs from /var/log/messages during these attempts so we
 can see what's going on?  If NM can't get the driver to associate, and it
 cannot get a successful DHCP transaction within about 30 seconds, the
 association fails.
