 > We need to provide the firmware version in a sys interface in order to
 show the firmware information in Sugar Console, currently the only way to
 get this information is running the 'olpc-bios-sig' command, but it
 require root privileges.

 This and other info was always planned on being available via the device
 tree.  I just checked and those patches are ready to go into use.  They
 will go into the experimental as ASAP and get pushed out for use by Monday
 April 9th
