 One more thing I tried:  I turned off anti-aliasing with

   ok  29 1 dcon!

   ok  s3

 That had the expected results, degrading the appearance of black text on a
 white background, but it had no effect on the resume artifact that is the
 subject of this ticket.  The artifact still appears exactly as before.
