 my shf7050034a experiences same problem.

 So... command for testing camera manually is "cat /dev/video0"
 and something is indeed wrong on this particular olpc, because kernel
 driver complains "cafe1000-ccic ... smbus write 42/12/80 timed out.

 ...it should be the one with serial console added inside.
