 Ok, I now see the defect.  Urdu and Arabic just don't show up.  Weird.

 I'm trying to look more into it, but suddenly half of my B1 keyboard
 stopped working (the QAZ and EDC columns in fact, plus tab and ctrl), and
 I'm trying to find a USB keyboard.  I'm in vacation so it's a bit hard..

 If you can try this, it may help: run gucharmap on the laptop, go to the
 Arabic block and see if they look right.  If not, right-click on them and
 see which font it says is used to render them.
