 Rob,

joaoboscoapf is meeting the needs of his employer, the Brazilian
 government.  As on any Linux system, anyone is free to do what they will;
OLPC is an open platform. Note that OLPC has preinstalled Gnash on the
system, and that we highly value yuor work, and doing everything we can to
make your life easier, up to and including working on Adobe to attempt to
change their position. When people get the systems, they are free to do
what they will with them, and install Flash 9. We appreciate your views:
please appreciate his views that he has to be able to play the content
 that his country requires.

flash plugin is essential for the success of the laptop (at least for
 Brazil).

browser. There are resolution problems, performance problems and plugin
 support problems (Flash and Java).

first thing they do is to test it in educational portals, with lots of
Flash contents and some Java applets. There are thousands of flash
educational games at the internet. Classmate and Mobilis works fine on
them but XO not. It is not my opinion, that is the fact right now.

 media codecs?''

fidelity access to all of the Web sites around the world. The reality
today is that many Web sites make heavy use of non-open source technology
like Flash and Windows Media. Our view is that since the '''OLPC is about
kids and education, not open source dogma''', we think that, at least for
the time being, it makes sense to include non-open source components when
there is no full-fidelity open source alternative.''

that's also my opinion and I think that being so extreme can make OLPC
 project to fail.

I have no interest in hurting the OLPC project. If you want to run Adode,
 go right ahead.
