Comment (by gnu):

 Let me add some weight to dilinger's and cjb's suggestions. Make it less
 dogmatic and more usable, please. I currently have 22 access points in my
 mesh view.  Give them names!!!

 I can't even tell which one I have selected -- can't you draw it BIG AND
 BOLD instead of making some miniscule alteration in its color? Isn't the
 interface supposed to work even in monochrome, e.g. when you're in
 sunlight?

 The drop-down list had already started failing in my envionment;
 apparently nobody considered what should happen if there are more access
 points visible than fit in one vertical column.

 This UI exemplifies everything WRONG with the macintosh gui. It gives you
 zero feedback and zero information, whether an error occurs or whether no
 error occurs.
