 Yes, you do need to update the symlink by hand.

 I think the history behind why this doesn't work is that we're using
 Fedora kernel RPMs (in which /boot/vmlinuz isn't special) and OpenFirmware
 (which expects /boot/vmlinuz to point to the current kernel).  No-one's
 yet modified the specfile to handle updating the symlink.
