Comment (by wmb at firmworks.com):

 One way to reduce pops is to send some number of 0 samples to the DAC
 prior to turning on the amp.  In some circuits that isn't all that you
 have to do, but conversely, if the DAC is putting out a nonzero voltage
 when you turn on the amp, you almost certainly will get a pop.
