 The 'boot-file' variable contains _arguments_. It should be called 'boot-
 arguments' instead.

 I understand the reasons why it evolved like this, but we're ditching
 historical baggage in many other ways so let's ditch this too.

 We should also be using normal slashes for directory separators, for
 consistency.
