 Ok, I'm now sure that the bug is that sun12x22.psfu.gz is broken (it has
 an empty Unicode mapping table).  The easy fix is as simple as putting
 iso01-12x22 in /etc/sysconfig/i18n instead of sun12x22.

 I have a suggestion for the kernel to make it more usable on broken fonts
 too, will write it to Egmont directly so it goes upstream.

 Have a fixed version of the sun12x22 font too (assuming it's a Latin1
 font, got to check), I'll attach here or send upstream (or Fedora).
