 as discussed on IRC, it works fine for me.

 garysu: can you look in /var/log/messages, etc, and see if it even
 registers the keyboard/mouse being plugged in? Do USB memory sticks work
 for you? (They should be automatically mounted under /media, and if you go
 into the Journal there'll be a toolbar at the bottom showing that it's
 plugged in.)
