The current page which appears when an address cannot be resolved in
Browse has a number of problems.
1. It renders strangely, with the white rect completely disconnected from
the rest of the content.
2. It shows a heavily text based (and likely non-localized?) list of
suggestions, some of which don't apply or should be ignored for
conciseness.
I think that typos and lack of connection will be the culprit 99% of the
time; It's useless to mention firewalls, proxies, and domain registration
here. Let's focus on what a kid might be able to adjust. Additionally,
we should approach the visual design in a kid-friendly way.
Also, our current design for the web browser hides the URL in favor of
showing the page title. That's fine; The title is friendlier. However,
since a typo will be the most frequent reason for seeing this page, I
think it makes sense to special case this circumstance, revealing the bad
URL instead of the much less useful "Page not found" text, and perhaps
even placing focus directly in the URL field for making any necessary
modifications.
another option to consider are offering a "search for this text" button,
in cases where the user was simply looking for a phrase.
I'm going to assign this to myself, since it is mostly a design problem
first, but it would be helpful to get opinions from others as well as
details on the feasibility of some of the suggested changes.
