Comment:

This looks like a bug in OFW's FAT16 support. The latest
autoreinstallation script detects when you boot from a non-FAT partition,
but it probably isn't (yet) smart enough to distinguish between FAT16 and
 FAT32. IRC sez:

(07:13:15 PM) C. Scott Ananian: Mitch_Bradley: can OFW write to FAT16?
 (07:13:30 PM) C. Scott Ananian: Mitch_Bradley: see bug #2424:
 https://dev.laptop.org/ticket/2424
(07:15:57 PM) Mitch_Bradley: cscott: in principle it can, and it has
always worked for me, but new and amusing issues appear from time to time.
(07:18:10 PM) Mitch_Bradley: cscott: can you get your hands on that
 device?
(07:18:57 PM) Mitch_Bradley: cscott: I have one of those hockeypuck
drives, but of course it is the fs layout thereon that is interesting
(07:24:57 PM) C. Scott Ananian: Mitch_Bradley: dcbw reported the bug, so I
 expect he's got the device
(07:25:26 PM) Mitch_Bradley: cscott: Is he at 1cc today?
 (07:25:32 PM) cjb: he was
(07:26:01 PM) Mitch_Bradley: I hope the test case is still intact
