Comment:

 Sounds like a packaging mistake: that dependency is really one on a number
 of PAM modules, rather than pam itself.

 We certainly don't need a 3.6M dictionary; (8 meg uncompressed).

 I can't find /usr/share/cracklib on my ubuntu system.
