 The reason this is a problem is because unlike a browser, RSS content can
 change -- a user can mark an item as read, or a new article can appear, or
 an article can change, or media can finish downloading.  Managing all of
 the possible backend changes and the frontend UI elements they tie to is
 going to be a difficult task.  It's doable, but not if we're supposed to
 have it done yesterday.

 Something I could write quickly (but not hacky) would be a simplified
 read-only mode.  It would be able to select from the list of feeds and
 display content, but it will not mark items as read or be able to download
 or play media.  This mode could be used for every subsequent instance
 after the first.

 (Maybe this simplified version could be eventually turned in to the
 default news reader on the laptop... it would probably solve a lot of the
 slow-down problems)
