 Yeah, this has been a problem for a while. It's because Paint becomes
 associated on the donut with a grey mesh icon which appears next to the
 Paint icon, instead of the Paint icon itself. The Paint icon leads to the
 grey screen; the mesh icon is what actually leads to Paint.

 Most of the details and logs are in #1759, but actually closing out of it
 wasn't a problem for me back then so this should probably be left as a
 separate ticket.
