 Okay - so the actual fix is that access() uses the UID and not the EUID
 when checking access to a file - so this failed when the X server was
 being called with UID=olpc and EUID=root.  Bernie has the right fix in his
 patch, but its sort of obscured by the rest of the cleanup.  I'm going to
 pull over the commits from the fd.o tree, integrate Bernie's patch and go
 from there.
