Comment:

 Sjoerd Simons @ Collabora maintains telepathy-salut, the connection
 manager for link local (mesh) XMPP connections. He has identified what may
 be the problem, which requires a patch for avahi. That is being submitted
 upstream and hopefully merged into OLPC soon.

 There is another case reported where salut does see the other XO but it
 doesn't appear in the mesh view. I'll try to track that problem down.
