Comment:

 Cool.  Nice bug. I think this is likely serious and high priority, as I
 suspect you are tickling the firmware in some way that would come back to
 bite us and cause failure under NM, just after a much longer time.

 I'm assigning this to dcbw for investigation; I suspect he'll find it to
 be firmware.
