#660: b1 laptop backlight malfunctioning

There are two problems with the backlight on my laptop. The first is that
it makes a noise when it is on. It always made a very quiet high-pitched
squeal (maybe 10-15Khz?), but now it's gotten worse. It is very
irritating and makes it so I literally can't stand to have the backlight
on. It sounds like a flashbulb charging up, too, because the pitched
rises over time. Also, the brighter the backlight is, the higher and
louder the sound is. At lower brightnesses, there is also a lower pitched
sound too (under 1KHz I think).

Also, the backlight no longer illuminates the screen completely or evenly.
I'll attach a picture to demonstrate.

This is a sudden problem. I haven't used the laptop since christmas so
it's just been sitting around (busy at work, sorry!). I turned it on to
upgrade to 212/b16 today, and the backlight was like this. To be
specific, the problem was present during bootup of 193/a62, and continues
now that I've upgraded to 212/b16.
