#941: hostname localhost.localdomain

I noticed in the boot messages: "Setting hostname localhost.localdomain:"

Are they going to get unique hostnames?

cjb: doesn't DHCP set the hostname, though?
CarlFK: it can, but from what I have seen dhcp doesn't always happen
CarlFK: and sending a hostname isn't guaranteed

cjb: if dhcp doesn't happen, we're not on a network and don't care that we
 don't have a unique hostname.

follow up: I do not belive you can rely on a dhcp server to supply a host-
name. The man page implies that it is optional:

 man dhcp-options:
""" It is not necessary to exhaustively specify all DHCP options
  - only those options which are needed by clients must be specified.

        option host-name string;

This option specifies the name of the client. The name may
 or may not be qualified
with the local domain name (it is preferable to use the domain-
 name option to specify
the domain name). See RFC 1035 for character set
 restrictions. This option is only
honored by dhclient-script(8) if the hostname for the client
 machine is not set.
 """ http://www.phpman.info/index.php/man/dhcp-options

 I also read though
http://rfc.net/rfc2132.html "DHCP Options and BOOTP Vendor Extensions"
I did not find antying stating that the server MUST supply a host-name.

OTOH, it may be just fine to have them all named localhost.
